Day 4 Theme: On The Thirds

There are a number of “rules” when it comes to photography. Darren Rowse explains the rule of thirds quite well in his tutorial aptly named, “Rule of Thirds” on the Digital Photography School website. In addition to his succinct explanation, he also provides visual examples to drive home the point.

Traditionally, I am a rule breaker when it comes to photography. I don’t usually think of the rules when setting up my composition, but in order to meet the goal of today’s theme, I had to.

Below, is a photo of our German Shepherd, Freyja. There’s no way I was going out in the backyard without her tagging along, so I made her the subject of today’s challenge.  She’s so photogenic, when you can get her to be still long enough!

In this image, you will notice that she takes up the majority of the left hand side of the frame, the left two-thirds. I think I need a little more practice with this rule, but I think I got it here, for the most part.

Enjoy, and I’ll see you tomorrow.
